It is now past the submission deadline for your personal income tax return BE form.
If you have submitted duly, you have done your part as a taxpayer, good job! However, you should know this is not the end of your responsibilities or things to keep track of. Here we have made a quick summary of things you need to know after your BE submission.
Amendment of e-BE
For taxpayers that used the e-Filing on Mytax to submit their personal income tax return, you can amend your BE return for over-declared income or under-claimed tax reliefs via “e-Application for Amended BE”. The conditions are that:
1. You submitted your BE tax return via e-Filing.
2. Your tax return was submitted within the deadline (30 April + 15-day grace period)
3. You can only apply for an amendment once.
4. You can access the e-Application for Amended BE at MyTax under e-Filing.
Tax payable/refund
After submitting your tax return, you will know how much balance tax you have to pay or how much tax you have paid extra. The payment/refunds will be due/issued as follows:
| Tax payable | Tax Refund |
E-Filing | Due 15 May | Issued within 30 working days from e-BE submission |
Manual Submission | Due 30 April | 90 working days from the Return Form submission |
***Payment can be done via MyTax ByrHASiL.
Tax Audit
Keep in mind LHDN can call you up any time to audit your tax returns, so be sure to keep your tax return-related documents accessible. This includes your income slip, receipts, insurance statements etc.
You as a taxpayer have the obligation to keep the documents for 7 years after income tax return submission, or you may face penalties.
